HTMS Sarasin
Discover the HTMS Sarasin: A Premier Dive Experience
The HTMS Sarasin, originally the USS PC-495, is an exceptional dive site in Thailand, perfect for advanced and technical divers seeking an underwater adventure. Built in 1941 as a PC-461-class submarine chaser, the vessel served in World War II before being transferred to the Royal Thai Navy in 1951. Renamed HTMS Sarasin, it continued to serve as a patrol boat for several decades.
In 1992, the HTMS Sarasin was intentionally sunk during a target practice exercise but sank unexpectedly on its way back to port. The wreck now lies at a depth of 44 meters, with the top at approximately 36 meters, offering a substantial structure for exploration.
Resting on its port side, the HTMS Sarasin is about 53 meters long and 7 meters wide. The wreck has developed into a vibrant artificial reef, attracting a diverse array of marine life. Divers can encounter schools of trevally, barracuda, and various smaller marine species that inhabit the wreck’s many nooks and crannies.
Dive conditions typically include good visibility and mild currents, making the site accessible yet challenging. The wreck allows for full penetration, but only divers with appropriate training and experience should attempt this. Proper technical diving gear, including rebreathers and decompression setups, is essential for exploring the deeper parts of the wreck safely.
